Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Construction Manager to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all construction work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while complying with all relevant health, safety, and legal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire construction project lifecycle, from planning and design to execution and handover.
- Coordinate and manage a team of site operatives, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets, and ensure adherence to them.
- Monitor and track project progress, addressing any issues or delays that arise.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, health and safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct regular site inspections to assess progress, quality, and safety.
- Liaise with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Prepare and present progress reports for senior management and clients.
- Manage procurement of materials and resources, ensuring they meet project specifications.
- Ensure that all documentation, including contracts, plans, and reports, is accurately maintained and up to date.
- Implement cost control measures to optimise resource use and reduce waste.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional qualification).
- Extensive experience in managing construction projects, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, health and safety laws, and industry standards.
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient in project management software (e.g., Procore, Asta Powerproject).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence.
- (Optional) Chartered status (e.g., MCIOB, RICS, or similar) would be an advantage.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience in both residential and commercial construction projects.
- Strong negotiation skills for dealing with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and modern construction technologies.
- Ability to mentor and develop junior staff members.
